General Chairman's Report
February 15, 2002

  • Once again, Potomac Valley Swimming will have the opportunity to select a recipient of the 2002 Phillip's Petroleum Outstanding Service Award. This award is presented to a volunteer in each USA Swimming LSC in recognition of services to swimming. As General Chairman, I will recommend my nominee to the board at our April meeting. In the meantime, if anyone wishes to make a recommendation to me, please contact me.

  • Under business development, USA Swimming is exploring and acting on a pilot project to produce and market instructional videos with our elite level athletes and their coaches. USA Swimming is working with a company called Century Inc. to produce, duplicate and distribute the video. The pilot video will be on the Butterfly with Michael Phelps and Bob Bowman as the athlete and coach respectively.

  • February 16-17, the annual Black History Month Swim Meet is being held in Washington, DC at the Capital East Natatorium. Byron Davis is attending the meet as an official USA Swimming representative. Sabir Muhammad is to cover the meet as a special correspondent for USA Swimming web site. All participants will receive a complementary copy of the January-February Splash magazine, which focuses on the subject of racial diversity in swimming.
