Recertification Requirements for PVS Officials
Recertification extends certifications for two years (three years for Timing System and Hy-Tek Operators). For officials certified in multiple positions, it may not be necessary to recertify in all positions. The following table shows the certifications that are brought current when an official recertifies in another position.

Recertification Requirements for Referees
- Previously certified by PVS or another USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) as a Referee
- If from another LSC, fulfilled all relevant requirements of the PVS Officials' Transfer Policy.
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Must have worked at least six sessions in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. Each year, at least one of these sessions must have been as a Referee and at least one must have been as a Stroke & Turn Judge.
- Attend a PVS conducted Referee's Clinic.
- Pass the USA Swimming Referee Recertification Test with a grade of at least 90%.
- Submit the online PVS Officials Recertification Request
Recertification Requirements for Starters
- Previously certified by PVS or another USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) as a Starter.
- If from another LSC, fulfill all relevant requirements of the PVS Officials' Transfer Policy.
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Must have worked at least four sessions in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. Each year, at least two of these sessions must have been as a Starter and at least one must have been as a Stroke & Turn Judge or Chief Judge.
- Attend a PVS conducted Starter's Clinic.
- Pass the USA Swimming Starter Recertification Test with a grade of at least 90%.
- Submit the online PVS Officials Recertification Request
Recertification Requirements for Chief Judges
- Previously certified by PVS or another USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) as a Chief Judge
- If from another LSC, fulfill all relevant requirements of the PVS Officials' Transfer Policy.
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Must have worked at least four sessions in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. Each year, at least two of these sessions must have been as a Chief Judge and at least one must have been as a Stroke ∓ Turn Judge.
- Attend a PVS conducted Chief Judge's Clinic.
- Pass the USA Swimming Recertification Test for Stroke and Judge and the PVS Recertification Test for Chief Judge with a grade of at least 85%.
- Submit the online PVS Officials Recertification Request
Recertification Requirements for Stroke & Turn Judges
- Previously certified by PVS or another USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) as a Stroke & Turn Judge.
- If from another LSC, fulfill all relevant requirements of the PVS Officials' Transfer Policy.
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Must have worked at least four sessions in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets* as a Stroke & Turn Judge.
- Attend a PVS conducted or approved Stroke and Turn Judge's Clinic.
- Pass the USA Swimming Recertifying Stroke Turn and Judge test with a grade of at least 85%.
- Submit the online PVS Officials Recertification Request
Recertification Requirements for Administrative Officials
- Previously certified by PVS or another USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) as an Administrative Official.
- If from another LSC, fulfill all relevant requirements of the PVS Officials' Transfer Policy.
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Must have worked at least four sessions in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. Each year, at least two of these sessions must have been as an administrative official.
- Attend a PVS conducted or approved Administrative Officials' Clinic.
- Pass the USA Swimming Recertifying Administrative Official test with a grade of at least 90%.
- If not certified as a Colorado Timing System operator, obtain certification
- Submit the online PVS Officials Recertification Request
Recertification Requirements for Hy-Tek Operators
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Work at least four sessions per year in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. At least two of those sessions must have been as a Hy-Tek Operator.
- If not certified in any positions other than ETS Operator or Hy-Tek Operator, attend a PVS conducted recertification clinic.
Recertification Requirements for Electronic Timing System Operators
- Have a current membership in USA Swimming as a non-athlete member.
- Work at least four sessions per year in each year since last certification/recertification at PVS-sanctioned, non-Officials Qualifying meets*. At least two of those sessions must have been as an Electronic Timing System Operator.
- If not certified in any positions other than ETS Operator or Hy-Tek Operator, attend a PVS conducted recertification clinic.
