USA Swimming Safe Sport Newsletter

The purpose of this newsletter is to provide a foundation that allows for direct on-going communication with each of you. Information contained within will cover the most current Safe Sport related information. If you have any feedback, comments or suggestions, please e-mail us at athleteprotection@usaswimming.org.

Safe Sport Updates

With the New Year upon us, it is a great time to set new goals for the Safe Sport initiative as well as reflect on all the great strides we have already taken. Let us know what you are doing in your LSC to spread the Safe Sport word and we’ll highlight it in the next Safe Sport Newsletter.

Training and Education

As all of our schedules start to fill up for the New Year, please think about inviting Safe Sport staff to your LSC camps or clinics to facilitate the Athlete Training. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Safe Sport Coordinator Liz Hoendervoogt at ehoendervoogt@usaswimming.org.

Coming this spring are the Zone Workshops! The Safe Sport Program has been invited by the Times and Registration volunteers to be a part of these workshops. We would like to see the LSC Safe Sport Chairs attend a weekend where we will be able to review and discuss how the position has been, as well as provide new education to assist you all in this role.

The dates and locations are as follows:

  •     Central Zone-April 4-6 in Chicago, Ill.
  •     Eastern Zone-April 11-13 in Baltimore, Md.
  •     Western Zone-April 25-27 in Denver, Colo.
  •     Southern Zone-May 16-18 in Tampa, Fla.

Please stay posted for further details or contact Safe Sport Staff, Susan Woessner or Liz Hoendervoogt, at swoessner@usaswimming.org or ehoendervoogt@usaswimming.org.

This year we will continue to offer free webinars as Safe Sport educational opportunities. Please keep a look out for that schedule as the dates will be highlighted in newsletters to come.

Remind Your Clubs

The deadline for the Athlete Protection Training was on Dec. 31, 2013. All non-athlete members were required to renew by this time. If there are people that are having difficulty renewing, please have them contact athleteprotection@usaswimming.org.
