Important Notice: Warm-up and Session Start Times are subject to adjustment once entries for both PVS Senior Long Course and PVS Junior Championships have been received.

Eligibility:

Open to Potomac Valley Swimming registered athletes and invited USA Swimming athletes. Clubs interested in participating should request an invitation from the PVS Senior Chairman, Riley Eaton at 301-367-2819 or jreaton@verizon.net.  Contestants must have equaled or bettered the applicable cut-off times listed. Do not enter with a time achieved prior to July 1, 2006.

Entry times for individual and relay events shall have been achieved within two years prior to the meet entry deadline; however, the times need not be the best competitive times of the swimmers but can be any time they have swum equal to or under the event qualifying time.  Swimmers entered in the 800/1000 and 1500/1650 freestyle do not need to enter with their best times, but may enter themselves at their fastest time or at the time standard.

Inclusion Policy for Swimmers with a Disability

PVS and host clubs along with their Meet Directors are committed to the Inclusion Policy as adopted by the BOD. Athletes with a disability are welcomed and are asked to provide advance notice of desired accommodations to the Meet Director and PVS Senior Chairman Riley Eaton at jreaton@verizon.net. The athlete (or the athlete’s coach) is also responsible for notifying the session referee of any disability prior to the competition.

Warnings:

Any club that enters an unregistered or improperly registered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered coach, or a coach with expired or incomplete certifications to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100.00 and no further entries will be accepted from that club until the said fine has been paid.

All entry times and USA Swimming memberships are subject to verification. Any athlete not achieving a QT, may be asked to prove the entry time to the Meet Director prior to the start of the meet.

Entry fees are due with meet entry. Unpaid fees will be reported to the PVS Administrative Office at the conclusion of the meet.

Swim Suit Rule:

Effective May 15, 2009: For 12 & Under swimmers, swimsuits worn in all 12 and Under Age Group defined competition or Open or non-designated competition that includes either scoring or awards by age, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor past the knee. Violators will be barred from competition until the swimmer’s swimsuit meets the requirements of this paragraph.

A second suit, including drag suit, cannot be worn during competition. Additional informtion on details of this rule change, which became effective in March 2009, can be found on the PVS homepage.

Coaches and swimmers should review the updated USA Swimming Rule about approved swim suits. Also, review the guidance from the USA Swimming Officials Committee on the implementation of this rule change.

Rules:

Current USA Swimming rules shall govern the meet. A contestant may compete in a maximum of seven (7) individual events, and compete in no more than three (3) individual events per day. A club may enter up to three relay teams per relay event, but only two relay teams per club per relay event may score. The 200 M Freestyle and Medley Relays (events 21-22 and 33-34) will not be scored.

All events are trials and finals, except for relays and the 800 M and 1500 M Freestyle, which are timed finals.

No late entries are permitted for this meet.

No on-deck USA-S registrations will be permitted.

Withdrawing From Finals:

PVS scratch rules apply for swimmers scratching finals. If a swimmer fails to properly scratch from a final event and does not appear for the final, he/she "will be barred from further competition for the remainder of the meet".

Positive Check In:

Positive check-in is required for all individual events 400 Meters and over, and all Relays. These events will be seeded on the deck. Swimmers who do not check-in will be scratched from that event. Athletes who have checked in, have been seeded, and fail to swim the event will be barred from their next scheduled individual event.

If the size of the PVS Senior and/or Junior Championships warrant, positive check-in for individual events 200 Meters or shorter may be announced.

Order of Swims:

There will be three heats swum in finals for all individual events except the 800 and 1500 events, which are timed finals as stated above. Heats will be swum in the following order: "A", "B", and "C" (previously referred to as finals, consolation and bonus).

Short Course times will be seeded after long course entry times.

Heats of distance events (800 and 1500) will be swum fast to slow, alternating women and men. The fastest seeded heat of the women's 800 and men's 1500 will be the first event of the Sunday finals session.

Swimmers in these events are responsible for providing their own timer, except for those in the fastest heat being swum as part of Sunday finals.

Bonus Event:

Any athlete, who is entered into at least one individual event, may also enter one bonus event. If entered in 2 or more individual events, they may enter 2 bonus events. Athletes entering bonus events may compete in no more than the maximum events per session or meet.

Time Trials:

Time trials will be held following the completion of the finals session each evening. An athlete must compete in an individual event in the meet in order to participate in the time trials. Athletes are permitted one time trial per time trial session provided that this participation does not cause them to exceed the three events per day limitation. Time trial fee is $10.00 /attempt. The order of time trial events will be those events contested that day followed by those events remaining to be contested, followed by those events already contested.

Warm-up:

The prescribed Potomac Valley Swimming warm-up procedures and safety policies will be followed. The Meet Director may determine the structure of the warm-up, including times and lane assignments. During the meet there will be continuous warm-up/warm-down lanes. Persons will be assigned to monitor these areas. If at any time conditions become unsafe, the area will be closed for the remainder of the session.

Scoring:

Individual Events: 20,17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
