General Information about PVS Zone Teams
Each year there are two Zone meets. In the spring, is the Short
Course Eastern Zone Age Group Championship meet, in the summer there is
the LC Eastern Zone Age Group Championships. These meets are also known
as "Zones." The Zone meet is an opportunity for swimmers in Potomac
Valley to come to together and compete against other LSCs in the Eastern
Zone.
The Eastern Zone a division of USA Swimming and contains 12 Local
Swim Communities (Potomac Valley, Virginia, Maryland, Mid Atlantic,
Allegany Mountain, Metropolitan, Niagara, New England, New Jersey,
Adirondack, Connecticut and Maine). Each LSC constructs a team to
compete against the other LSCs in a championship meet.
- For the spring SC meet: Each club enters their own swimmers
much like for the Senior Zone and Sectional meets.
- For the summer LC meet: there are qualifying times and LSC are able
to take all swimmers, who apply and have achieved the qualifying time,
to the meet.
- PVS selects a Zone Team Staff,
made up of coaches from within Potomac Valley. These coaches oversee all
activities for those traveling with the team,
from the bus ride, to the hotel, to the pool. By being a
member of the Zone team, all participants are agreeing to follow these
guidelines.
- Additionally each member of the Zone Team will receive an outfitting
package, provided by PVS. There are required items, which are provided
as well as optional items.
- Each swimmer is expected at pay a fee to attend the zone team;
however PVS subsidizes the fee for the trip. Swimmer fees are generally
in the $600-$800 range and include, meet entry fee, bus transportation to and
from the host city and to and from the pool each session of the meet,
all hotel accommodations, meals and outfitting (to include; t-shirts,
caps, warm up jacket or sweatshirt). Other items, such as competition
swim suit, team back pack and towel are optional and an additional fee.
